Trending-Feature Walls In The Kitchen

Feature walls are back. Gone are the days of eye watering wall paper as 2018 sees textures making a key design statement, especially in the kitchen. The technical development of materials means marbles are more cost effective and laminates are more durable to extend the variety of offerings in the market. Our advice: expand your comfort zone, be experimental and be unique!

Create texture

Below, we used the contrasting marble worktop as an extended splash back which returns giving a high-level shelf. This creates a strong seamless look allowing the natural marbling to be the design statement.

What’s your brickwork like? Sometimes the best design pieces are the ones you already have. Here we used exposed brick accompanied by contemporary textured wall paper. Create contrast!

Modern classics

Wood panelling has consistently stood the test of time when it comes to kitchen wall finishes. Here, tongue and groove panelling painted a rich, deep blue compliments the kitchen, yet still stands out as a feature wall.

If budget is a constraint or perhaps you want something a little more subtle, tiles are a tremendous way to create a feature wall. For a contemporary touch have a play with the layout. Here we ran the tiles up to the wall cabinetry in a 45 degree herringbone pattern.

Uncompromising, Cost-Effective Imagery

The Set Visions creative team have been busy joining forces, producing Photography and CGI imagery for our global client which is bespoke, hand crafted and truly unique. Our multi-skilled team’s creative vision translates across both specialist mediums ensuring our CGI and Photography images are perfectly in parallel and on form. By using both disciplines we delivered the project within budget without compromising quality.

Lincrusta recently approached the team with a fantastic challenge to create editorial content that relies on our Photography studio’s realism and attention to detail whilst exploiting CGI’s ability to render photorealistic architecture and location. By using the same product in both studios we’ve created imaginative product images that do just that!

The styling direction was overseen by our Head of Creative, with our Photography Studio manager keeping a keen eye on the CGI output.

Each deeply embossed paper design is printed blank and applied to the walls ready for the hand painted finish, meaning every fitting is truly bespoke. A great advantage of working with CGI means our teams can re-use 3D assets to easily create alternative images. Below is an example of using the previously created Tropical Leaf paper and combining it with the Trellis, for a coastal take on the designs.

Get the Look-Calm Modern Classic

This look is all about creating a calm space with a modern take on a classic styling. Mix up that classic style by updating furniture to modern mango woods. Soft and tonal blues are still very much on trend. Hints of denim tones in fabrics with chalky blues on cushions are ways to pull a winning array together - layer them up for a relaxing luxurious feel. We’re seeing a resurgence in pattern wallpaper and wallcoverings, in a calm colour tones.

Bespoke Kitchen Photography

Capture is our Photography team, B2B specialists in the Kitchen, Bathroom and Bedroom industries and still going strong after 25 years. Our commercial space is specifically geared up for large room set builds which are perfect for bespoke kitchens, trend-based Pinterest content and promotional video.

A recent project saw Symphony and Laura Ashley Kitchens commission a set of images for their upcoming product release. Historically a CGI client, they wanted to use traditional photography to re-capture the realism that is sometimes lost in CGI. Although CGI is fantastic for architectural visualisations, traditional photography effortlessly captures mood, organic feeling and the tactile homely touch for which the iconic brand is famous.

Nina, Our Head of Creative, worked meticulously with Laura Ashley to deliver creative concepts and art direction that fit within Laura Ashley’s brand guidelines. All our creative team work exclusively in-house, meaning each client benefits from the personal touch be it from our enthusiastic set builders, talented stylists or professional photographers.

Trend Alert-Mixed Materials in the Kitchen

We've been championing the Mixed Materials Trend during 2016 in a lot of our Kitchen images and we believe this trend will only grow in strength during 2017. By bringing natural materials into our home we add a connection to a lifestyle that celebrates and embraces nature and its unique imperfections. Below are some of our favourite examples.

Header main

Surface design that mimics naturemiddle

The Stone Blue facia utilises the latest technology in surface design. The textured surface of the wood grain effect makes it a great solid wood replica with all the benefits of a laminate. This has been layered with tonal marble and cool greys for an elegant and refined look.

By using the textured Walnut facia in the industrial style kitchen, warmth has been added to the palette. The tactile mix of textured Walnut, embossed tin wall tiles with textured slate lends personality to the clutter free kitchen.

Exposing and unifying the lookbottom

The skylight in the Oak Shaker kitchen is divided by textured wooden beams and exposed sandstone, creating contrasts with the slick finish of the painted plaster. What we choose to expose and hide creates an interesting commentary for any contemporary kitchen.

Mixing materials doesn’t always require contrasting textures. The matt doors, matt walls and semi-matt floor tiles combine the same texture but still allow to stand out in the kitchen. The use of one grey hue ties the look together.

Paint Trends for your home - Part 2

retro colour bloc (RT)

Based around the Colour Block trend emerging across fashion and interior design worlds, graphic colour patterns liven up interiors with hints of the 60s and 70s. From music, to fashion, to interiors, there is a vivid collaboration of Retro with a thoroughly modern twist. The room set shouts ‘Modern-Meets-Retro’ with a bold, colour block feel for a fun, fresh room. Bold, angular shapes create a living room set with the sharp colours and props you’d expect in a functional, mid-century inspired room set design. It was key to use a combination of the retro sideboard furniture piece with a modern sofa make over, mixed with a new classic graphic rug.

The paint style was a feature wall with a mural of geometric shapes and lines. Our decorator masked off sections and selected four colours from the new retro range. No need for paintings or pictures with feature wall like this.

Set design by our in house photographic stylist Nina. Constructed in our photographic studio along with a variety of other lifestyle interior sets.
